Welcome to the Wool Shed

The Wool Shed - not just a warehouse in cyberspace but a real wool shop, trading since the early 1980s.

[And now we have made UK orders post free which makes the online shop more like the real one. Click on the panel on the top right for details.]

We have also added a "Clearance" section which has some Debbie Bliss yarns and quite a lot of Noro China Garden Chunky in it for starters.

   Just a Meersheep!

We are just back from Woolfest (well we've been back for a while now actually!)which was a great success again. Barbara's entry in the sheep auction amused the audience and nearly made the top price(again!). It's available as a kit- please enquire if you are interested

An Elizabeth Zimmerman classic. Her books will be in our Books and Patterns soon - Click the thumbnail to see.
A baby Surprise jacket knitted recently for a new arrival. A wonderful piece of knitting engineering which inspired us to get Elizabeth Zimmernan's classic knitting books back in stock

More Flying Flock just landed!
See below for details.

We have added a Laceweight category to the Yarns to make it easy to find them. A laceweight which isn't listed is our own Albalace, a Shetland yarn spun locally for us. Please enquire if you want to know more about this

Our other Scottish yarns continue to do well, growing in popularity all the time.
Albayarn is a true Shetland 4Ply in a beautiful range of 35 colours supported by quite a few of our own designs as well as many other patterns.
[We also keep a smaller range of Rennies Supersoft Lambswool which knits as a 3ply on 3mm needles.]
Another interesting Rennies yarn, much used in the Simply Shetland pattern books we stock is the Castle Collection a Lambswool and Silk blend
Flying Flock is a DK Shetland and Hebridean blend and as yet we haven't had the time to put new designs using it on the site - but we are working on them. It is a standard DK so can be used in any DK pattern. The 2009 shearing has now been spun and is in the shop now

For details of our Scottish yarns and more of our designs using them, click on the pictures below

Below is a picture of a mini shawl in Albalace which Liz has done in preparation for the workshop.
